Delta in talks with Boeing to buy 737 MAX

Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastian said the airline was trying to reach a deal with Boeing to buy up to 100 737 MAX 10s on Wednesday.

The two have reportedly been in talks since March but have not been able to reach an agreement. If a deal were to be reached, it would be a milestone order for Boeing as Delta is the only major U.S. carrier without a 737 MAX order, having opted to order the MAX’s main competitor, the Airbus A320neo, instead.

When Delta CEO Ed Bastian was asked if he thought the aircraft had a place at the carrier he said the following: “I think there is. We've been trying to get a deal done with Boeing. We're keeping our eye on that, and hopefully, we'll be able to figure that out. We continue to see if there's opportunities with the MAX but no decisions, no hold ups.”

The Boeing 737 MAX 10’s main competitor is Airbus’ strongest-selling aircraft, the A321neo. Both planes are aimed at the fast-growing middle segment of the market with just above 200 seats.
